WI Club Meeting Minutes – November 2018
Wisconsin Club Lake Sumter
November 19, 2018
The meeting was called to order by President MaryKay Childress at 7:07 PM; members joined in The Pledge of Allegiance. All then paused for a moment of silent prayer for the brave men and women serving our country. Members then joined in singing “On Wisconsin”.
MaryKay asked if members enjoyed the cheese curds which were shipped in fresh from FarmerJohn’s Cheese in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. Yes was the response.
A representative of “The Battle of The Villages”, a high school basketball tournament held in the Villages each December, briefed members and encouraged their support. Limited seating for the event makes tickets not easily obtained but he recommended members watch for ticket information in the Daily Sun and then take quick action if wanting to attend. One team is from Wisconsin, Hamilton High from Sussex. Dates are Dec. 27-30. Hamilton plays their first game of Dec. 28.
Lynn Bartlett talked about the planned trip to St. Augustine on Monday, Dec. 10. She also promoted the planned trip to Tampa Bay Downs on Friday, Feb.1, 2019; cost is $65 per person. We would leave about 9:30 AM and return about 7:30 PM. Cost includes bus, buffet lunch, and grandstand tickets. Ticket payment to Hal Baumann is needed by end of December.
Ten new members were introduced along with a guest.
No treasurer’s report was presented as the report had been deferred to the December board meeting.
MaryKay reminded members to let the club know if they are not getting the monthly newsletters by email. She also stressed the urgent need to find a V.P. Programs for 2019-2020 as well as a new Webmaster.
Holiday Party signup is still available thru Hal Baumann; cost is $35 per member. The event is Monday, Dec. 17 at SeaBreeze hosted by the On Wisconsin Club.
MaryKay thanked members for their donations to the Stanton/Weirsdale school which allow for the provision of eight full Thanksgiving dinners for families in need.
The “Wisconsin Singers” are again coming to the Villages in March 2019. We expect to have discount coupons available at the January meeting. Our support of the event helps raise extra money for our club which in turn helps keep dues down.
Singer Kim Marie Manske and friend Joe G. provided the entertainment from 7:30 PM to 9. Members enjoyed the music; line dancing was a big favorite.
The evening concluded with our 50/50 drawing.
