Monthly Meeting Minutes
January 21, 2019, Club Meeting
The January 21, 2019, Club meeting of the Wisconsin Club Lake Sumter was called to order by President MaryKay Childress at 7:07 PM at the Lake Miona Recreation Center. President Childress announced we had 37 new members and 7 guests at the meeting.
Club members recited the pledge of allegiance and joined in singing the two versions of “On Wisconsin”.
David Booth, President, and CEO of Combat Veterans to Careers was introduced. He showed a short video about this charity and answered questions from members. David was the founder of the group. He thanked the many local volunteers who have helped his organization over the past years.
Joe Keysers talked about the Club golf outing, a shotgun scramble planned for Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at Harbor Hills starting at 8:15 am. Golf is $37; lunch after golf is $17 if desired. Individual hole prize eligibility is $5 per golfer. We need 60 golfers to make this work. If insufficient members show interest, it will be opened up to the other Wisconsin Clubs. Make reservations by contacting Hal Baumann or Joe Keysers. We are currently taking money for golf only.
Hal Baumann presented the treasurer’s report, a quarterly summary of the past three month’s reports approved by the Club Board. A motion was made to approve the report, seconded and approved. Hal noted that we donated $600 to Combat Veterans to Careers last year.
Lynn Bartlett talked about the planned February 1, 2019 trip to Tampa Bay Downs. Bus pick up will be at Plantation Recreation Center in the RV Park on 466 at Rolling Acres Road. The German dinner trip is planned for March 1st. Bus transportation is $25 or you can drive yourselves. We will order from the menu. A reservation for 40 has been placed at the restaurant.
President Childress reminded members that the Wisconsin Singers will be again performing two shows on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at the Savannah Center. Tickets are $22; members were asked to see Hal Baumann for discount coupons which allowed members to buy up to six tickets for $20 each, a $2 discount. It was noted that members could buy tickets already the next day, Tuesday, Jan. 22.
Villager Tom Gourlay then introduced us to trivia night. Each table acted as a team with multiple categories. The winning table got an amazing 59 of 64 questions correct.
A door prize drawing was conducted; one prize was a Wisconsin Singers shirt donated by Mary Viegut.
A 50/50 drawing completed the evening. Top prize was $50.
