WI CLUB LAKE SUMTER MEETING MINUTES – APRIL 2018
Wisconsin Club Lake Sumter
Monthly Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 7:05pm by President Thies, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Vice President Jeanne Engle introduced the mixer which was about similarities. Each table had 8 minutes to complete a form listing common similarities of each member at the table. Jeanne then picked up the slips and announced that next month we would be tested on what our similarities were. The members enjoyed the game and were very involved in finding the answers.
President Thies thanked everyone for supporting the Wisconsin Singers. The ticket sales this year were up 15%. This is important since they do not receive funding from the University of Wisconsin.
A reminder that Game Night will be Monday, April 23rd at Bacall Recreation Center at 6pm.
There is still time to sign up for the joint golf outing. It is scheduled for May 5th at Pimlico and Belmont Golf Courses. The cost is $2 per member. Marilyn Butenhof was present at the meeting and was available to sign up golfers.
The May 21st meeting will be our annual picnic. The event will be held at Colony Recreation Center at 6pm. Food will be potluck plus chicken and ribs from Oakwood. Weather permitting we will have several games for all to enjoy.
Resident Thies informed us that Comcast will be dropping Big 10 Network from its roster. Dick has a petition for anyone who is interested and is a Comcast subscriber to sign. The petition recommends that Comcast not drop Big 10 Network.
The Treasurer’s Report for March 1, 2018, to March 31, 2018, was read by Hal Baumann. A motion to approve was made and seconded and approved.
The slate of officers for 2018-2019 is as follows:
Vice President/Programs—Jeanne Engle
Assistant Treasurer & Membership Chair—Roxanne Evans (a new member from Waukesha)
The slate was read by President Thies. He then asked if there were any other nominations (3 times). Not hearing any other nominations he ordered that nominations be closed. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the slate as presented. The slate received a unanimous vote.
Membership Chairperson Joan Schachtner introduced two new members.
Members were reminded that they should be getting the monthly newsletter from the president and also meeting reminders by email. If you are not currently receiving these, please check your junk bin or let Nancy Miller know your correct email address.
The evening’s entertainment was provided by Miller and Mark. They are a music duo. They were very well received by the members as evidenced by the number of dancers that filled the dance floor.
The 50/50 drawing was held. The proceeds from this drawing go to charity. The Board will decide the charities in the May meeting.
Two door prizes were presented. These were donated by Fireworks Popcorn, a company from Milwaukee.
The meeting was adjourned at 9pm.
