Monthly Meeting Minutes
September 17, 2018
The meeting was called to order by President MaryKay Childress at 7:03pm with the Pledge of Allegiance.
President MaryKay spoke about spoke about an event that occurs at Spanish Springs square called College Colors. She feels that we should be represented there at the next event.
Treasurer’s report was given by Hal Baumann (copy attached). Motion/second/approved.
Joanie Schachtner introduced 16 new members.
Gordon Hamm, a volunteer representative of Stanton-Wiersdale Elementary School was introduced.
He gave us a brief background about the school. It was established in 1956 as an all black school. It remained so until the mid sixties when it became integrated. Today, the student body is made up of many underprivileged children. About 30% of the children live in the Ocala Forest. For this reason the school provides free breakfast and lunch every day for anyone who wants it. Since many of the families of the children are extremely poor, many of them have never experienced a turkey dinner for Thanksgiving. Mr. Hamm has been raising money for several years to buy turkey and fixin’s for as many families as he can. He asked us to put out a jar for contributions to the fund.
Lynn Bartlett promoted a group that travels to special events and places in Florida.
At 7:30pm MaryKay suspended the business meeting to introduce “By George” who was our entertainer for the evening. He is a singer and comedian.
After the entertainment MaryKay reminded us all that Judy Cimbalnik is once again heading up the Dine Around group. Anyone interested in joining should call Judy.
50/50 Raffle was held at 8:40pm.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:43pm.
