President’s Message: March 2015

Hey, all WI Club Irish and Irish Wannabees!

Monday, March 16, 2015, our Lake Sumter Club will host the largest and most enjoyable entertainment yet. This entertainment would normally cost you dearly at any box office, but because you are such a great loyal bunch of people, you will be treated to this very special cost-free event. PETRINA, our entertainer, along with musician Tony Orlando, has sworn me to secrecy regarding what it is she is going to present to you…I can tell you one thing she will do, but you will have to open the attachment here to find that out! It has not been in her repertoire before this

Please plan to arrive early this month, as I plan to start the business meeting and hold the election at 6:45 p.m., so the entertainment can get off to an early start, rather than a delayed one. That way, you all will get a chance after the show to visit with Petrina and Tony in case you want to book them for a show in another club or neighborhood group you may belong to.

Please continue to promote the March 30, 2015 performance of The WI Singers and remind all you meet to get their tickets for this great energy-filled show they perform for us–different each year! This is how these kids spend their Spring Breaks–and how we add money to our operating funds, which go towards the support of our great meeting entertainment programs for you. The proceeds from WI Singers are split between the 3 WI Clubs.

Candidates for the 2015-2016 WI Lake Sumter board of directors will be announced, introduced, and voted on at this meeting. Any of you will have the opportunity to still nominate a candidate from the floor if you so choose, or yourself if you like.

Speaking of needs….we are now needing to find a new Web Master for our club. Mr. Gary Gerke…who has been our Guy since the onset of our club, has submitted his letter of resignation, to become effective December 31, 2015. He has promised to help a new Web Master take over, providing he does not have to do so from the very ground up. So, we are looking for someone with some web site operating experience to take on this position. If you are that person, or can recommend

someone who is, please get that information to me a.s.a.p.. or

787-914-7811. This communication, and all the others, has come from our Web person. Communication processes like this are vital to the success of any good club…so our right hands know what our left hands are doing, so to speak.

Our Mardis Gras last month surely was a lot of colorful fun…thanks to Judy C. and her committee. and to all of you for attending and participating…many folks have told me how much they enjoyed it. If any of you took pictures and can email them to Gary, at, I sure would love that. It is always nice to have these new pics to publish on the Web Site. Bring your cameras/phones with you on the 16th, too. You won’t believe it!!

Remember, there are lots of great events scheduled here in The Villages this month. Sign on to, then go up and click on “EVENTS” to see them all listed by date. Just keep in mind you are already tied up for March 16!!

Keep your calendars marked for Game Night, Monday, March 30, 2015 at Bacall Rec Center, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Please be on time for these game nights, unless you have formed your own card groups with a specific time you all plan to get there. Don’t forget to bring a snack to share.

Please remember to let our brand new member and Sunshine Person know of any members who are ill, or recovering from surgeries, or who have passed. Be sure to copy me with that info, too. Her name and email address is: LISA BJORK… She will send out a card–a ray of sunshine–to them right away. On this note, it is with sadness and regret that must inform you of the sudden passing of fellow member, and long-time friend of Mike and I, Erv “Butch” Benisch. He left this earth, and his wife, the lovely Pat Benish, on February 19, 2015, and will be sorely missed by her, their family, and all who knew and loved him.

See you ALL at the meeting…and will send out the Memory Jogger before that. I will be giving you all info on our April meetin’s good ole’ fashioned “Hoe Down”! I do hope the warm weather will be back and here to stay by then!
