April 2019 President’s Message

April is in the air, Wisconsin Club Lake Sumter!!!

Wow. What beautiful weather we have had lately. The little bit of chill and rain was tolerable. Our poor Wisconsin families are not happy, I’m sure. As I am writing this, it is snowing in Green Bay with a high of 32 degrees today. Gonna be a nasty weekend for them. Well, as they say, “You don’t have to shovel sunshine!”, so here we are.

Hey! What about the horse races last month? Thank you, Gary Gerke and Jeanne Engle, for pulling that together for us. Thanks to everybody that participated as well. From the volunteers that kept our betting table running smoothly, to the horses in the race to the skilled dice rollers… I saw smiling, giggling faces all around the room. And to those who may have lost a buck or two, better luck next year and thank you for your contribution! ha-ha

Let’s welcome our newest members, Denis and Betty Faltynski and Dayna Aldrich to the WI Club Lake Sumter! Thank you for joining us! So many fresh faces this year, that’s awesome!

Just a note regarding membership. As of our last meeting Roxanne, membership chairman, reported we have 416 members, with 278 paid to date…… HINT HINT! Also, please let her know if you need a name badge. Yours should read Jan/2019 thru Dec/2019. For assistance with updating or renewing your membership, please see Roxanne Evans or Hal Bauman Thank you so much. At our April meeting, Roxanne will not be in attendance, but her “Happy Membership Helpers”, Ginny, and Norm Piazza, will be there to answer questions and assist you.

How are we looking in the sports arena?
With a heavy heart, I bit a fair Good-bye Randal Cobb and Clay Matthews. I sure hope we know what we’re doing this year!

Milwaukee Bucks are the best team in the NBA – RAH!!!! Good Luck to the Bucks in the upcoming NBA playoffs. Kudos to our Greek Freak, Giannis Antetokonmpo, expected to be the MVP in the NBA.

Our Brewers started off with a BANG at 7-1, but we have lost a couple of games recently. Stay Tuned! #BrewerFeverStrong

Next Monday, April 15 – John B & Friends

John B. and Friends will present “The John Denver Story – His Life and Music” for our Club on April 15.

Songs that the trio has selected include ones that give insight into who John Deutschendorf (John Denver) really was. These songs are some of John’s more beautiful songs. Some songs are well-known and we can sing along while Denver’s music is played.

John Denver was not only a singer-songwriter and actor, but he was also a humanitarian and environmentalist.

In his honor, we’ll celebrate Earth Day – started by Wisconsin’s Gaylord Nelson on April 22, 1970.

BYOB and snacks to share at your table.

May 20 – Picnic

Don’t miss our last meeting of the year – our annual picnic on May 20. Once again, the Club will provide chicken and ribs from Oakwood Smokehouse & Grill. Bring an appetizer, side dish, or dessert to share with everyone; BYOB.

Get ready for a cornhole tournament. Watch for an e-mail next month to RSVP.

Note the earlier 6:00 p.m. start time for the last meeting of the year.

Closing Thoughts

I am a bit sad that my year is coming to an end. I feel like we are just winding up! I need to focus on my business and support you all in the background. It has been fun and I love our WI Club Lake Sumter!!!

I will also be asking for a show of hands at the next meeting, as it has been brought to the board’s attention that we should start a bit earlier for our meetings. Of course, this will affect times that require additional time… We are proposing a regular meeting start time of 6:30 PM, in lieu of the standard 7 PM start time. Our Core Hours will be from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

Also, there will be a sign-up sheet in the back of the room for our new “Entertainment Committee” Volunteers for next year. “The more, the merrier!”

In addition to this newsletter

which is sent out every month, you can find out about all the upcoming events… 24/7… on our website www.wiclublakesumter.org.
