2017-18 Officer Nominations
Mike Feeney, a Club Past President, is chairing the Nominating Committee for the 2017-18 slate of officers. Please talk to Mike if you are interested or know someone who wants to be a part of our club leadership now or in the future. We have a full slate of nominees for this election but know we will need members who can help with some positions in the 2018-19 club year. Proposed officers are announced in March; elections in April.
WISCONSIN SINGERS – Wednesday, March 22, Savannah Center
The WISCONSIN SINGERS will perform again in the Villages on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, with performances at 5 and 8 PM at the Savannah Center. Tickets are $20 for residents ($18 if you have a Wisconsin Club discount coupon) and are on sale at the Villages box offices or on-line (discount coupons must be presented in person at a box office).
Now in their 49th year as a performing group, the 20 plus singers/dancers and musicians, and an equal number of technical support staff, have been giving Villager’s high energy performances for over 10 straight years. While representing the UW-Madison Division of Student life, they do not get UW funding. They depend on concerts like ours and charitable donations to do what they truly enjoy; entertaining others. Any profits from the village’s performance are split between the three Wisconsin Clubs.
If you will be here in March, don’t miss this opportunity to hear some great UW students in person at the Savannah Center. Dinah and I will be there with friends for the 8 PM performance. About 50% of the tickets have been sold as of our last meeting.
Extra discount coupons are available by contacting me (608-444-9610 or email@example.com). Any remaining coupons will be made available at the March meeting.
April 17th Meeting – Wisconsin Author Michael Edmonds
Wisconsin Author Michael Edmonds, (Out of The Northwoods: The Many Lives of Paul Bunyan), will be our featured speaker at the April 17th club meeting at 7 PM. Michael is a staff member at the Wisconsin Historical Society. This will be a ticketed event. Tickets ($10) will be available at our March meeting. Members and guests who have purchased one of his books can get it signed. Members who wish to purchase a copy of Out of The Northwoods: The Many Lives of Paul Bunyan are asked to see MaryKay Childress. Snack food will be provided. THIS IS A UNIQUE EVENT YOU WILL NOT WANT TO MISS!
The $10 Tickets are also available from Hal Baumann by sending him a check (made out to WISCONSIN CLUB LAKE SUMTER) to his home at 2003 Ridge Spring Drive, The Villages, Fl 32162 and the tickets will be held for you at the door.
Monday, February 27th, Monday, March 27th and Monday, April 24th are the next three game nights at 6 PM. Due to a scheduling conflict, the March 27th game night will be at the Bridgeport Rec. Center. The others are at Bacall Rec. Center on Canal Street. If interested, just show up; BYOB and snacks. These fun nights continue each month on the fourth Monday.
Joint Wisconsin Club Golf Outings
Signup for the Joint Wisconsin Club Golf outing on May 6th (Hawkes Bay or Saddlebrook) is now underway. Cost is $2. Marylyn Butenhof will be at our next two meeting to sign up interested members. The fall event will be on September 30th. Foursomes are picked at random. Participants get a ticket for a pitcher of beer or a soft drink. The group gathers after golf at a local restaurant for drinks and awarding of prizes. It is a great way to get to know other former Wisconsin people. Ray Haas (352-750-5142) of the Paradise Club is the event Chair.
Program Ideas Welcomed
Have you attended another meeting that featured entertainment you would like at our club? Do you remember a past club entertainer or subject you want to have us bring back? Let MaryKay Childress (MaryKay.Childress@yahoo.com) or any other board member know what you like to see, hear or do.
President’s Personal Message
It was great to see the support for women’s sports at UW as evidenced at our last meeting. The UW Women’s hockey is still #1 and the Softball team has an early 8-1 start to their season. The UW men’s programs are trying hard to not be outdone. Men’s basketball is tied for the BIG TEN lead and ranked #16 and Men’s hockey is winning again. Coach Chryst has hired Jim Leonhard as his new defensive coordinator. Even when still playing, Jim was like another coach on the field. In my opinion, he will do well in this new challenging position. I believe we will have a great 2017 season.
Giving back to our community has always been a big part of our lives. Dinah and I encourage you to do the same, whether here or back in Wisconsin. You can help locally by supporting the SEEDS OF HOPE annual food drive. Several concerts are scheduled in the next two weeks. No tickets are required, just a non-perishable food or monetary donation. Checks are made out to Seeds of Hope-WSK. Hope to see you at one of the upcoming events.
Do you like great 4 part male harmony? Then the next concert of THE BROTHERS IN SONG is just the thing for you. It will be Friday, March 31st at 6 PM at Hope Lutheran Church. $12 tickets are on sale at the Villages box offices. The last concert sold out so get your tickets now.
As you go about your daily activities, either here in the Villages, or while up north or traveling, be proud to say “We are from Wisconsin”.
