|It is February already…Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! I hope you are all surviving the cold temperatures we have this week and bet many of you are giving the Movie Theater managers a lot to celebrate after their Super Bowl Sunday rash of open seats!
As you all may know, it is time for me to present a full slate of candidates running for offices for the 2016/2017 fiscal year. I would love to do that at this upcoming meeting, but, it seems, I won’t be able to do so! This magnificent club of ours still needs one of you to step up and tell us you will run for the office of Treasurer. If you are interested, please contact Bill Cammack, the Nominations Committee chair at email@example.com, or at 352-399-5754. You can also call Dinah Theis, 608-444-9610, firstname.lastname@example.org, or Judy Cimbalnik, 262-391-9869,email@example.com.
I am very confident one of you will step up before the February meeting Monday night. I feel this great club may disband if this does not happen.
By the way, you do not have to live here full-time to hold this position. We have an assistant Treasurer who will take over when you are up north for the summer. Please consider stepping up!
The next meeting will be February 15 starting at 6:45 PM. We will have an important update from Bryan Lifsey from Senior’s vs. Crime. If you have never heard this presentation, or haven’t heard it lately, you won’t want to miss this. It is critical information for anyone living in The Villages. Bryan’s presentation will be followed by a fun trivia contest which we will do while eating some wonderful Ollie’s ice cream–no charge to you!
Tri County Jr. Golf
Tri County Jr. Golf, a charity of ours, is looking for volunteers for their Golf Fest on March 11-12. Contact David Izzo, Director firstname.lastname@example.org, 352-615-1957, or their website www.tcjg.org to sign up. They are counting on us, so tell him you are from our WI Club.
Tampa Bay Downs
We still have some open seats on the bus for the March 12 Tampa Bay Downs event. Feel free to ask your friends and neighbors and houseguests to join us for this fun-filled day of horse racing and food. Get in touch with Hal Baumann, email@example.com or 352-259-6552… time is running out to get this 2nd bus filled! Don’t miss out on this fun day together, and the hat judging contest!

We are introducing a new segment this month – Members of the Month. We will highlight members every month that helps make the WI Club Lake Sumter great. This month’s members are Sheldon and Penny Larsen.
Sheldon and Penny Larsen
Shel and Penny have been visiting The Villages since 2004 and bought here in the Village of Summerhill in 2012. They hail from Green Bay, WI where Shel worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Bureau of Highways Division and Penny worked for five neurosurgeons. This is their 4th year in the WIClub and they have enjoyed the various events including the cruise last year.
They like to play golf, shuffleboard, pickleball and belong to the Motor Racing Club. They have a son who lives in Cedarburg and a daughter who lives in Green Bay and have six grandchildren.
I would also like to alert you to a fine performance of The Villages Hometown Band, performing at Savannah Center on February 17, at 7:00 pm. Our fellow member of the club, and in the same Dine-Out group with Mike and I, Bob Smidt, plays in this band and gave me the flyer for it. Let’s see if a few of us can attend this together.. this Band plays terrific Pops music…not to be missed!
See you at the meeting….and remember to BYOB and a snack for your table to share!
