March 2017 President’s Message

A HARDY CREW HAD FUN AT GAME NIGHT!

A smaller but energetic group of members enjoyed playing both old and new games. Hopefully, our regular 4th Monday of the month game night will have gained some attendees. I found out that our “house rules” for Mexican Train dominoes are different than what some people play. The “chicken foot” option sure does sound interesting.

It was great to have 11 new members introduce themselves. I ask all of our members to make them feel welcome at future club meetings or anytime you meet. As a club, we will strive to keep our members updated on club activities. We want all of our members to feel at home whenever we are together. New members introduced at the meeting are Deb and Craig Barkelar (Madison), Diane and Tony Saliva (Franklin), Mike and Ellie Haessly (Brookfield), Kathy and Bill Jansen (Madison), Sue Klein (Milwaukee/Elm Grove), Charlotte Koehler (Sheboygan), and Tom Ponto (Milwaukee).

WISCONSIN SINGERS! ENERGETIC ENTERTAINMENT SURPREME!

Thanks to all who attended The WISCONSIN SINGERS performances on Wednesday, March 22nd   Dinah, I, and our friends had a great time.  We expect The Wisconsin Singers to be back again in 2018.

Game Night

Monday, April 24th, Monday, May 22nd, and Monday, June 26th are the next three game nights at 6 PM. at Bacall Rec. Center on Canal Street.  If interested, just show up; BYOB and snacks.  These fun nights continue each month on the fourth Monday.

Joint Wisconsin Club Golf Outings

Signup for the Joint Wisconsin Club Golf outing on May 6th (Hawkes Bay or Saddlebrook) is now underway.  Cost is $2.  Marylyn Butenhof will be at our next meeting to sign up interested members.  The fall event will be on September 30th.  Foursomes are picked at random.  Participants get a ticket for a pitcher of beer or a soft drink.  The group gathers after golf at a local restaurant for drinks and awarding of prizes.  It is a great way to get to know other former Wisconsin people.  Ray Haas (352-750-5142) of the Paradise Club is the event Chair.

President’s Personal Message

March Madness is here in full swing as I write this message. By the time you get it, we will be whooping and hollering after a couple of wins or thanking our Badgers for an entertaining season, and for the Seniors, a memorable career. The hockey season is over; the UW Women’s hockey finishing one win short of another national championship; the men’s team improved tremendously over prior years and should be NCAA tournament contenders next year.

Coach Chryst, Jim Leonhard (new defensive coordinator) and new Coach Bob Bostad (inside linebackers) have spring practice underway. For UW football fanatics, the spring game on April 21st, 7:30 PM, should be on the Big Ten Network. You can also go to the Badgers website (UWbadgers.com) and get current information on practices. I believe we will have a great 2017 season.

For Packer fans, while we wait for fall and our chances to meet at Cody’s on game day, the NFL draft is not far away. Only Ted Thompson has any idea which players we may select. Hope for a quality lineman or two to protect Rodgers and defensive players who are fast and can tackle. We have picked up a couple of tight ends as free agents (a big need); Eddie Lacy left for Seattle (good for us), and hopefully our defensive backs will be much better this fall.

Do you like great 4 part male harmony? Then the next concert of THE BROTHERS IN SONG is just the thing for you. It will be Friday, March 31st at 6 PM at Hope Lutheran Church. $12 tickets are on sale at the Villages box offices. The last concert sold out so get your tickets now.

As you go about your daily activities, either here in the Villages, or while up north or traveling, be proud to say “We are from Wisconsin”.

Your President
Richard Thies
